Observing

I sat on a rock in the forest, with mind full of thoughts. Observing life was possible only when my mind quit thinking about the past or future concerns of my mortal being. When I came to the present moment, I could see small insects, tiny plants, trees, rocks and pebbles, water puddles with life in it and the continuous change going around me. Everything is changing all the time. The organisms are growing, rocks and stones are changing their structure, water is evaporating or flowing and wind is moving particles. It wasn’t difficult to understand that I am no different. Like any other organism, I too am made of elements borrowed from this planet. Once the organism ends, the elements return back to the planet.

Everything is changing all the time. It’s actually very easy to observe change in our surroundings. All we need is a silent mind. Change is also a subject for scientific investigation. Researchers collect data to understand cause and effect of every change. The findings usually predicts or recommends precautions that may have an impact on the safety of human race. What does it actually take to observe the changes in our surroundings? Life! Life observes life. Some lifeforms are provided by nature with stronger or more senses. The 5 senses available to humans are limited but sufficient to observe life.

Observing life helps me to recalibrate my ego. My ego of being a human is of no value in the vast realm of nature’s modus operandi.
